Mrs. Lina Wellborn
After thirty -three years in the classroom, I was offered the opportunity to begin a new program for Christ the King School. Thus begun a new adventure endeavoring to enhance opportunities to support the humanities curriculum at CKS.
The Humanities Enhancement program provides special allocated time for students to enjoy in depth explorations of the humanities through book and drama clubs. The Book Club students enjoy quiet reading time, group novel studies, discussions of character development, identification of themes, and the pleasure of listening to stories. Novel studies concentrate on the classics, including mythology and the Newbery winners. The students also enjoy speakers from the broader Nashville community, including local authors, artisans, and experts in various fields.
The Drama Club meets once a week on Thursdays from 3:00 until 4:30. The King's Players currently produce two plays a year. The fall play highlights mythology and fairy tales and the spring play features Shakespeare. This spring, we will present A Mid Summer Night's Dream. The fall play featured Stories from Olympia , which was written by three of our students who read and adapted an original script of four Greek myths. Students also employed their imaginations in identifying symbols of their characters which they translated into a mask for the play.
