Fifth Grade

Cindy Unwin

Hello and welcome! My name is Cindy Unwin. I am originally from Iowa, and came to Nashville in 2003 after teaching 4th grade for several years at St. Alphonsus School in Davenport. I am now in my 18th year of teaching 5th grade here at Christ the King and feel blessed to be part of this community.

Stepping into this classroom for the first time can be daunting to many rising 5th graders. My first goal is always to make sure the students who enter know that this room is a safe, nurturing, and relaxed environment where everyone is welcome. Each child is seen as an individual person in my eyes. Yes, we are one class, but within that, there are many personalities with varying wants and needs. While academics are important, it's just as important that the students' social and emotional skills are taken care of. Maybe even more so, as no real learning can take place if basic needs aren’t thought of first. By focusing on my first goal, students are quickly led on to goal number two: making their learning fun, enjoyable, and meaningful, so that he/she has the tools needed to be successful in their future schooling and beyond.
