September 15, 2017   Dear Parents,   Today was the Father Ryan High School visit! It is our first visit of three this year! We started off the morning with a full breakfast and learned about the academic and athletic programs that FRHS has to offer. We were able to get a sneak peek into the classes for the first half of the morning. Students were especially excited about the variety of classes they are able to take and the classes they walked into. Afterwards, 8th grade ate outside with a choice of entrĂ©e, sides, and beverage. We lucked out this year with beautiful weather. Afterwards, students saw the PE program, received a grand tour of the campus, competed in FRHS trivia, and learned about the art program. Overall, it was a very exciting day!   Girls, there is a St. Cecilia Academy field trip form attached to this email. I will give you a hard copy when I see you Tuesday as well. Please take a look at it for information regarding the trip. St. Cecilia is next Thursday, September 21st.    Reports were distributed today for 1st quarter interim – please check Friday Folders.   This week September 11-September 15!   In literature, students were introduced to the new writing assessment program called WrAP. Students were given archived examples of previously written essays, and they were able to use the actual rubric to score them. Students were also given a prompt to practice with the question of whether electronic books should replace paperback books. We also continued to read To Kill a Mockingbird where students made connections with Scout, the narrator, reflected through journaling and discussion, and provided evidence and examples.     In science, students determined the difference between physical and chemical properties of matter. We looked at what traits are purely physical and purely chemical. Students had some fantastic questions – next week we will be doing a lab that shows why mixing paint is a physical change, but we will also witness a chemical change separately. Students will be able to view both physical and chemical changes. We talked about and took notes on different examples for both physical and chemical changes.   In religion, students turned in their Social Justice Reflections today. So far, so good! Thank you for being on top of that. Students continued researching about the 10 commandments in relation to today. Students also made cards for Father Dexter for his 60th anniversary!   Thank you so much for your donations for the Diocese of Houston to help them with hurricane recovery efforts.   Our school will devote the school Mass offertory on September 12 and 26 to hurricane relief in Texas. Please consider how your family may participate in this effort. Thank you for your generosity in response to the needs of a fellow Catholic school community.     Upcoming Important Dates 1.
